The Year Ahead: 2021
Marsy’s Law for Oklahoma launched just over four years ago, in January 2017. Since then, we’ve campaigned statewide, worked alongside crime victims and advocates in securing an overwhelming victory for crime victims with the passage of SQ 794 in November 2018, and now we’re still here in 2021, working alongside state leaders, law enforcement, and advocates with the ongoing implementation of Marsy’s Law in Oklahoma.
Now that Oklahoma is purple for Marsy’s Law, in honor of crime victims across the state, we will continue to not only demonstrate the impact of Marsy’s Law but to focus on lasting commitments to build and preserve networks and relationships across the coalition. That includes continued discussions with new legislators, collaborating on law enforcement trainings, monitoring criminal justice reform and victim notification, and supporting local individuals and organizations who advocate on behalf of victims of crime
In 2020, Marsy’s Law for Oklahoma established an advisory board, comprised of 12 members with various experience and expertise, either as a victim or survivor of crime or as an advocate in a professional capacity. The advisory board meets quarterly, and we’d love to hear from you! Please send your questions or thoughts to [email protected] for discussion in our next board meeting on Tuesday, February 16.
Lastly, let us know how you or your organization will participate in National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, April 18-24, 2021. We know that the pandemic will alter the look of many events, but we know the heart of these observations will shine through.
